At an event aimed at promoting the launch of the new Golf hatchback, VW’s Chief Executive Officer Herbert Diess spoke highly about Tesla.

Diess was asked by reporters if they think Tesla are in trouble because it’s too small. In response the highly regarded CEO replied “Tesla is not niche, the Model 3 is a large-series model and they are one of the biggest manufacturers of electric car batteries. We have a lot of respect for Tesla, it’s a competitor we take very seriously.’

Recently on 24th October Tesla shares soared 18% to a 6.5 year high, this in turn put Tesla at the top US automaker by market capitalisation, above General Motors.

Only last month Elon Musk tweeted that Diess was “doing more than any big carmaker to go electric.” In the not too distant past Volkswagen was found guilty of an emissions scandal dubbed Dieselgate that has since cost the car maker an estimated £30 Billion, something we touched upon in a previous issue…. https://www.thetrailblazer.co.uk/blog/diesel-cars-whats-their-future
