KFC Makes a Bold Move: From Kentucky Roots to Texas Dreams
KFC, the iconic fast-food chain, is relocating its corporate headquarters from Louisville, Kentucky to Plano, Texas. This significant move by parent company Yum Brands, which will also house Pizza Hut at the new location, affects around 100 corporate employees and numerous remote workers who will receive assistance for their relocation. The decision aims to capitalize on Texas’ favorable business environment, marked by lower taxes and enhanced operational support, which has recently attracted many corporations.
Yum Brands’ CEO, David Gibbs, emphasized that this transition is designed to foster sustainable growth and improve collaboration among their brands. Despite the excitement surrounding KFC’s new chapter, the move has drawn criticism from Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, who expressed disappointment, highlighting KFC’s deep-rooted history in the state, dating back to the 1930s when founder Colonel Harland Sanders began selling fried chicken at a service station in Corbin.
As KFC embraces its future in Texas, it will retain its philanthropic KFC Foundation and maintain its offices in Louisville, ensuring that its Kentucky heritage remains a part of its identity. The relocation parallels a broader trend of companies shifting headquarters to Texas post-pandemic, with cities like Austin gaining popularity due to their business-friendly climates.
