Why Liverpool Should Reach For The Sky - Studio RBA's Adam Morgan
Why Liverpool Should Reach For The Sky
It’s not exactly hard to realise that Liverpool is in the midst of a property boom right now, and it doesn’t look like it’ll be slowing down anytime soon, but is the city making enough hay whilst the sun continues to shine? Such questions that have been raised are ‘will these buildings last?’ ‘Why aren’t we building taller?’ ‘Why do they all look the same?’
Trailblazing architect firm Studio RBA appreciates good design and importantly, a high-quality development, so we spoke to their co-founder Adam Morgan to get his take on it all. Adam said “Whilst I understand that some developers don’t have design at the forefront of their minds, there’s evidence that proves well designed buildings that use quality materials will attract more investment and sales, win more awards, hold their value better over time and ultimately all involved will prosper. It’s also better for the city in the long run.”
He continued, “We should emulate the ambitious and willing attitudes of cities like Manchester and Birmingham to encourage ambitious architecture such as the Library of Birmingham. With its unique waterfront location and proud heritage, Liverpool should welcome these unique soaring buildings you see elsewhere. Look at New York City, whilst protecting their listed buildings such as the Flatiron Building (1902) and Federal Hall (1842) they’ve embraced modern architecture with 432 Park Avenue (2015) and One57 (2014), this has allowed the economy to thrive and thus NYC is one of the most prosperous cities in the world.
We appreciate that developers want to maximise their yield, councils have their guidelines and property owners want the best homes possible. Our belief is that all of these objectives can still be achieved whilst producing a high-quality design. Ultimately it’s a win for everyone and allows Liverpool continue to make great strides towards a bright future.
Studio RBA has soared to heights of its own in recent times, Adam proudly stated the only issue they’ve had this year is growing the team to cope with their increased workload, whilst maintaining their high standards across the board with new and existing clients. Thanks to their successful recruitment drive they continue to expand across the UK.
