Stunning Snowdon Mountain Railway preparing for a special 2020
It is time to plan a visit to one of Britain's most spectacular tourist spots as the attraction goes even greener
Snowdon Mountain Railway is preparing for a busy 2020 and with the spring and summer seasons fast approaching they are getting underway in their plans for the year ahead.
Re-opening after the winter break in mid March, Snowdon Mountain Railway makes for a perfect day out for all ages, whether it be a school holiday break, to get some fresh air and stunning views, or to simply tick Snowdon off your bucket list, you won’t leave disappointed.
With an investment of £1.1million in new, greener, locomotives, Snowdon Mountain Railway is excitedly expanding its fleet of trains as the popular tourist destination is preparing to welcome visitors, new and returning, from around the globe.
Commenting on the new locomotives, Mike Robertshaw, Senior Engineering Manager at Snowdon Mountain Railway, said:
“We are extremely proud of the development of our new Hybrid Diesel Locomotives. This is a significant investment in new technology which will not only allow us to carry more passengers but also allow us to help the environment. This is just the beginning of further investment in Snowdon Mountain Railway as we make it sustainable for the years ahead. It’s an exciting time for us all.”
Since its launch in 1896, Snowdon Mountain Railway has been experienced by over 12 million visitors from all corners of the world. It’s proud to be a service which has run uninterrupted, with the exception of both world wars.
Constructed between 1894-1896, a work force of only 150 men laid the track up what is the highest mountain in Wales and England. The summit is 1085 metres above sea level with one of the UK’s, if not one of the world’s most stunning views.
It is the UK’s only rack and pinion railway.
Ever since 1896, Llanberis has been extremely popular with visitors wanting to experience the unique experience of the locomotive journey to the summit and this is set to soar with the introduction of new greener technology.
