The city of Liverpool continues to retain and rejuvenate its stunning collection of heritage buildings, with the latest being the Ashcroft Building on Victoria Street. Once derelict, it has been give a much-needed makeover thanks to its new owners who have commendably kept tight hold of this buildings history.

The Ashcroft Building on Victoria Street was once home to J. Ashcroft & Co who moved there in 1884. J. Ashcroft & Co manufactured Billiard and Pool Tables in a building purpose built for the company and remained so for many years. The company served the company well for generations on Victoria Street until 1987, when Peter Ashcroft sold his interests, as there were no family members following his footsteps.

Fast-forward to the present day and the building is now home to Champagne & Fromage, operating on the ground floor. It’s relaxed French cuisine has gone down well with locals thanks to the attention to detail, especially when it comes to the food, directly imported from France and cant be tasted anywhere except its sister venues across London.

Thanks to its success the owners have now opened up another floor of the iconic building. Downstairs they have created The Ashcroft Social, which pays tribute to its former use by featuring pool tables, tasty pub grub and will showcase a wide variety of football matches, jazz nights and wine tasting evenings. Owners John and Mark said ‘you wont find a place like it anywhere else in Liverpool, whether you want to relax with friends after work, watch the match or sample some of the finest French cuisine, both venues can accommodate.’

It’s great to businesses both respect and embrace Liverpool’s unique heritage, upon our visit we even saw proudly displayed relics from Ashcroft & Co, brilliant!
