Kate Stewart - How To Juggle Motherhood And Business
Kate Stewart is proof that you can be both a successful businesswoman and doting mum.
With four children, and as a single mother, she’s the master of multitasking and has found the perfect balance between her personal life and work.
On weekends, she knows it’s time to put down her phone and focus purely on spending time with her children; three of which are four years old and under.
But during the week it’s all systems go. From the minute she gets up it’s all about getting her children ready for their day ahead and she personally does the school run every day as she knows that they want to see her waving them off, rather than someone else.
It’s these priceless moments that Kate just won’t miss out on.
But once the kids are safely at school, she’s right back to building her business empire.
“I’m there for the most important moments in my children’s lives; from giving them their breakfast, through to picking them up from school, and bath and bedtime, they always have their mum around. Weekends are our quality time and I’ll often plan a day out for us, whether it’s a picnic in the forest, or a day out at a play centre, they have my undivided attention,” explains Kate.
She adds: “But in order for me to provide as a single mother, I have to work. And it’s also what I love to do. I’m always getting my hands dirty and jumping straight into tasks as I think as an entrepreneur, and most importantly a businesswoman, you have to lead by example for your staff. I would never ask them to do something that I wouldn’t do myself.”
Kate’s secret to multitasking and finding the perfect balance, is being present in the moment - whether that’s at work or with her family - and giving 100%.
“It defeats the object if I’m at work but my mind is elsewhere on the children. Or vice versa; if I’m with my kids and I’m working away. I’d much rather be present and focused on what I’m doing at that moment in order for my colleagues and family to get the best from me,” she says.
But you can’t pour from an empty cup, so how does Kate ensure she’s always on top form?
“Every now and then, we all deserve a little ‘me’ time. Once the kids are in bed, I’ll read to unwind, or take myself off to a meditation session.”
